The Art of Inclusion: Curator Tour with Michelle Gewurtz

Wednesday, May 9, 2018 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Join this free tour from the OAG Visitor Experience desk.  Drop-in childcare will be available in the Hangar from 3 - 8 PM.

Slowly—and perhaps in response to demands for equity both within and outside of the art world—more women artists, Indigenous artists, artists of colour, and those working in disciplines previously classed as “craft,” are entering the spotlight. This walkthrough will explore works that speak to local histories of resistance and the fight for inclusion.

Following the tour, participate in a thoughtful discussion based on a reading suggested by Michelle from the exhibition’s catalogue.  Click here to download the text.

Michelle Gewurtz, Curator at the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG), holds a Ph.D. in the History of Art from the University of Leeds with a specialization in Feminism and the Visual Arts. Her curatorial projects explore the convergence of gender politics and creative identity, and her research interests extend to both historical and contemporary art practices. She has presented her research at national and international conferences and published widely.

Each month from May to August, join one of the exhibition curators for a tour of Àdisòkàmagan / Nous connaître un peu nous-mêmes / We’ll all become stories.
