The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) is a place for the curious to explore, support and experience the rich artistic heritage of Ottawa, its region and Gatineau – building a hub for creative conversations and connections. The OAG’s mandate is to be the most vital visual arts institution in Ottawa. As a leader in the arts community, we present new ideas and provide a cultural meeting place to actively promote relationships and exchanges between artists and various diverse facets of our community. We explore and reflect on diversity and social change through a spectrum of visual arts practice, focused on but not exclusive to the region in a national and international context.
Job Description:
The OAG is seeking a fluently bilingual, highly motivated individual with a strong interest in arts administration and museum education to join the team as a Community Programs Coordinator.
Working within the Learning and Engagement Department at the Gallery, the Community Programs Coordinator will have the opportunity to develop, coordinate and deliver educational and public programs both on-line and in-person for participants of all age groups at the OAG and in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, with a focus on Francophone and diverse multicultural communities. Community programs the coordinator will be involved with include: childcare programming; Toddler Mornings; Creative Sundays; Sketchy Thursdays; Happy Hours; Youth Council; Art Tent, and off-site, on-site and online community art workshops. The Coordinator will also be involved with programming planned for special and occasional events such as Family Day or Winterlude. The Coordinator will also administer the In Reach program, an opportunity for local grassroots organizations to run their own programming at the OAG.
Requirements of the Position:
- Fluently bilingual in English and French;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities/Arts – for example Fine Arts, Art History, Cultural Studies, Museum Studies, Communication, Education;
- Advanced skills in art and craft;
- An interest in and knowledge of museums and education;
- Ability to plan own work and lead work groups or teams;
- Ability to work with diverse groups of visitors ranging from small children to adults;
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with close attention to detail;
- Proficient using MS Office Products to include Word, Excel, etc..
