SUMMARY:Abound: In Conversation with Cat Attack Collective (Natalie Bruvels and Tomson)
DESCRIPTION:Abound artist Natalie Bruvels joins Marianne Brown (co-curator\, University of Ottawa) and Rachelle Dickenson (OAG’s Senior Curator) and on Instagram Live to chat about her artistic practice. Natalie will be joined by her son Tomson (together\, they are The Cat Attack Collective) to discuss their work in the exhibition! Please note this program will take place in English. La discussion se déroulera en anglais. \nThe Cat Attack Collective consists of Natalie Bruvels (@nbruvels) and her son Tomson\, aka Zip-Tie Guy. Cat Attack is a multidisciplinary collective working primarily in paint and immersive installation to interrupt representations and stereotypes of the maternal and single motherhood in art. Natalie recently completed her MFA in Visual Arts and is currently pursuing an MA in Contemporary Art Theory at the University of Ottawa. Her theoretical research centres on methodologies of matricentric feminist critiques and matricritics in visual arts\, which demand a mode of reading work made by mothers that address the cultural forgetting of motherwork. Her work is represented by Studio 66 in Ottawa and can be found in public\, private and corporate collections. Natalie’s son Tomson is a budding artist who enjoys stand-up comedy\, scootering\, playing videogames and nature walks. \nImage: Cat Attack Collective\, S.S.
