SUMMARY:Creative Sundays - September 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join us on September 25th for the first Creative Sunday of the season! From 10am-2pm in the Studio\, members of Isaruit Inuit Arts will be leading demos and workshops for visitors of all ages. \nJushua Illauq will be leading a Qulliq workshop. The Qulliq is an Inuit lamp that is typically made of soapstone and holds oil for burning to light a room and provide warmth. For this workshop\, we will be using a pie pan to make a Qulliq and learn more about the cultural significance of this object. \nIn addition to the workshop\, Reena Qillaq\, Asenath Kannutaq and David Erkloo will be demonstrating sealskin scraping and blubber rendering. \nAll activities are free and offered in a drop-in format. \n  \nMore about the members of Isaruit Inuit Arts: \nJushua Illauq is a respected Inuit hunter\, traveller by land and sea\, and consultant with Isaruit Inuit Arts in Ottawa. Jushua was raised on the land in the area of Kangirtugaapik (Clyde River)\, Qiqqiktaaluk (Baffin Island)\, and has many stories to tell from his seven decades of life on the land. \nAsenath Kannutaq was raised in an outpost camp near Saniraijak (Hall Beach)\, Qiqqiktaaluk (Baffin Island)\, where she learned to prepare and sew seal kins\, and to live in traditional ways\, totally ‘off-grid’. Asenath is presently a sewing instructor with Isaruit Inuit Arts shop at the Rideau Rockcliffe Hub on Saint Laurent Blvd. \nReena Qillaq is a talented and experienced Inuit creator from Kangirtugaapik (Clyde River)\, Qiqqiktaaluk (Baffin Island)\, who has worked with sealskins most of her life. These days she designs beautifully crafted miniatures\, kamiks (boots)\, mitts and other items out of sealskin. She also crochets and can make anything she envisions. In her spare time\, she passes on her skills to other Inuit sewers at Isaruit Inuit Arts. \nDavid Erkloo grew up on the land around Mirtimatalik (Pond Inlet)\, Qiqqitaaluk (Baffin Island). He is a master craftsman particularly in stone and metal. David works as a Shop Instructor at Isaruit Inuit Arts. \n \nInformation : family@oaggao.ca \nSupported by Hendrick Farm:
