DESCRIPTION:Weekly art and wellness workshops for mental health \nJoin us on Zoom for a creative workshop with Gallery Educator Abigail Kashul. The workshops aim to foster holistic wellness by providing multidisciplinary creative exploration in an open and supportive environment. \nFrom January to May\, we’ll be working with paint\, colour mixing\, and 3D collage to create shadow box artworks in preparation for our exhibition Sky Garden in May for Mental Health Awareness Month. \nWe are pleased to offer limited spaces to the public to participate in our Creative Space Online program. Subsidized art kits containing the required materials for the program are available in-person at the OAG shop during regular open hours for $35 until March 3. \nRegistration is now closed. The next session will begin on June 21. DESCRIPTION:Drawing with Anna Mikhailov \nJoin us for a FREE youth art drop-in! Open to youth aged 15-25\, materials and snacks are provided during the workshop. \nThis workshop will explain drawing basics\, such as how to create subtle characteristics and contrast effects through the use of different techniques using the example of a feather. This workshop will develop your sketching skills and allow you to experiment through the medium of graphite pencils. \n Reserve your spot as there are a limited number of them available! Anna taught herself to draw from numerous art books. DESCRIPTION:Atmospheric and linear perspective \nJoin us every last Thursday of the month in the Studio to learn observational sketching techniques at Ottawa Art Gallery. \nOn January 26\, we will be practicing atmospheric and linear perspective in our drawings. Using dry pastels\, we will take advantage of the gorgeous spaces the OAG offers for us to sketch. DESCRIPTION:FREE\nREGISTRATION REQUIRED \nRia Links_Artists for Systems Change is an offshoot from RIA Research in Art\, a visual arts program based in the home of artists Petra Halkes and Rene Price. Set up in December 2020\, it aims to connect politically informed\, local artists from all disciplines\, and artists’ collectives\, and study-groups who face up to the urgency of systems change\, and address the over-arching crisis of climate change directly in their art practice\, or in other ways. \nLori Victor’s presentation on the incredible ancient palace architectural site and ruins of Toprak-Kala gives us the sobering realization of what humanity could lose due to a warming climate. \nLori Victor is a full-time visual artist in Ottawa\, Canada. Her work questions and reflects on subjects such as cultural history\, identity\, and the environment/climate change. \nLimited spaces (20) available.
