DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Mexican Embassy in Canada\, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Canada and the Modern American School in Mexico City\, OAG presents an evening of storytelling in celebration of the Day of the Dead.  \nThis event is hosted by the artist  Fernando Trigo with assistance from students of the Modern American School and UNAM Canada.   \nFamily programming related to the event will take place in the OAG Studio on October 29. SUMMARY:Handbuilding Pottery Workshop at the OAG
DESCRIPTION:Join potter Joanna Richardson and learn how to create your own mug inspired by the flora of Ottawa! We’ll use textures foraged from Ottawa’s greenspaces to celebrate the nature in and around the city. \nIn this workshop\, we’ll use slab-building techniques and natural textures to create a functional mug. The piece will be glazed and fired by the instructor post-workshop and available to pick up in two weeks at the OAG shop. All tools and materials will be provided\, though students are encouraged to bring textures responsibly foraged from their favourite natural places (ex. shells and stones from the beach\, leaves and twigs from their gardens). \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners with no experience in clay. \nREGISTER HERE \nJoanna Richardson is an Ottawa-based potter who makes work rooted in thought and function.  She works with stoneware\, mixed media\, and a fascination with the simple and mundane. \nJoanna received her Bachelor of Honours in Cultural Studies from Trent University in 2015\, and her diploma in Fine Craft Ceramics from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 2018. She currently teaches wheel and handbuilding classes at Hintonburg Pottery.
