WHAT IS GIVE TO GET ART: VIRTUAL ART AUCTION?

 

  • Featuring more than 55 regional artists, artworks will be on display at the OAG between December 5th and 18th on days the Gallery is open to the public.

  • Bidding begins on December 12th, closes December 18th, and will be accessible through an online app downloadable straight to your phone or computer.
  • As the OAG’s signature fundraising event for over twenty years, your ticket grants you access to a virtual bidding app and contributes to helping us raise funds that allow the Gallery to offer free educational programs, tours, events and admission to the Gallery every day.
  • The artists who generously donate their artwork to the auction will receive 50% of the proceeds back in support of their art practices.

 

CAN I STILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE OTTAWA ART GALLERY EVEN THOUGH I DON’T WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE AUCTION?

WHAT ARE THE AUCTION RULES? HOW DOES IT WORK?

 

GIVE TO GET ART Virtual Art Auction is an online, silent auction. Here is how it works:

 

STEP 1: Tour the Works From December 5th to 18th you can visit the Ottawa Art Gallery to view the auction exhibition in the Alma Duncan Salon or visit us online to view our online gallery 24/7.

STEP 2: Purchase your Bidding Ticket: $35 gets you access to bidding and helps support the OAG

STEP 3: Load the Bid Beacon App:

STEP 4: Enter the access code provided to you via email 24 hours before bidding opens on December 12th at 7PM

STEP 5: LET THE BIDDING BEGIN! The app will send you live updates and alert you when you are outbid, from anywhere, anytime!

WHAT IS THE $35 FOR?

 

  • Your $35 bidding ticket not only gets you access to the bidding but directly contributes to supporting OAG’s FREE admission, educational programs, tours, and events.

 

CAN I GET A TAX RECIEPT?

$35 bidding ticket:                                        $35 Tax receipt

$225 Dinner for one + bidding ticket:           $125 Tax Receipt

$400 Dinner for two + bidding ticket:           $200 Tax Receipt

 

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE ART EXHIBITED?

 

The GIVE TO GET ART exhibition will be on view in the Alma Duncan Salon at the Ottawa Art Gallery from Saturday, December 5th to Friday, December 18th on days the Gallery is open to the public, and on line 24/7.

 

WHEN CAN I START BIDDING?

 

  • First things first, you can download the Bid Beacon app on your chosen device any time before December 5 to prepare.

  • Public bidding opens on Saturday, December 12th at 7PM and close Friday, December 18th at 5PM.  

  • To participate in the bidding process, you will need to purchase a $35 bidding- ticket.

  • An access code will be sent directly to you via email on December 11.

  • Use the access code to activate the OAG Auction through Bid Beacon on your chosen device.

  • The code is exclusive to your ticket.

  • There will be limited access to a 2-hour, early bidding window for those who purchase a VIP Dinner + Bidding Ticket. Early bidding starts Saturday, December 12th at 5PM

 

HOW MANY ARTISTS PARTICIPATE?

 

  • This year, more than 55 regional artists, emerging to established, are selected by a committee to participate in the Virtual Art Auction.

  • Artists donate their pieces and receive 50% of the sale proceeds in return.

 

HOW DOES THE OAG SELECT ARTISTS?

 

  • The participating artists represent art from the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

  • Artists are selected by a committee, who is responsible for developing a list of artists to invite each year by carefully considering the list of previous participants.

  • A number of artists are invited to participate in the auction, based on the strength of their practice.

  • The committee is also responsible for bringing new names to the fore, based on their knowledge of other artists currently practicing in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

 

WHAT KIND OF ARTWORK WILL BE AVAILABLE?

 

A variety of media are included, from painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and printmaking to mixed media, jewelry and still photographs from film, performance works and installations.

WHAT IS CRITICS’ CHOICE?

 

  • The Critics’ Choice pieces highlight the high caliber works up for auction.

  • A selection committee made up of Ottawa artists, art directors, critics and curators select five of their top choices.

  • The selection committee deliberates to determine the overall top five works – The Critics’ Choice.
