Le dimanche 27 mars, l’artiste-répondante Shaya Ishaq offre une visite de l’exposition d’Esmaa Mohamoud Jouer malgré la certitude de la défaite. La visite abordera des sujets tels que la résilience des personnes noires et le racisme dans l’industrie du sport, et encouragera des discussions importantes sur les messages puissants véhiculés par la pratique de Mohamoud. Ishaq était jumelée à Esmaa Mohamoud dans le cadre de Rapprochements, le programme de mentorat d’artistes de la GAO, et sera en mesure de commenter sur les similitudes entre leurs pratiques et leurs différentes approches à l’égard des thèmes liés à l’identité noire.

À propos de Shaya Ishaq
Shaya Ishaq est une artiste, designer et écrivaine interdisciplinaire qui s’intéresse aux métiers d’arts, à la diaspora, à l’anthropologie du design et à l’(afro) futurisme. Adepte de la matérialité, elle crée des œuvres d’art à porter, des bijoux et des installations à partir de textiles et d’argile. Intriguée par la liminalité des rites de passage, elle explore ces concepts à l’aide de procédés méditatifs tels que le tissage, le feutrage et la céramique travaillée à la main. Les œuvres, meubles, objets ou espaces qu’elle travaille lui permettent d’explorer l’intersection de l’engagement communautaire et de la pratique créative.
Join us in person to learn observational sketching techniques from an educator at the Ottawa Art Gallery.
On October 28, we will draw faces on pumpkins and then sketch them within the public settings of the gallery. Materials will be provided and participants will be able to bring their pumpkins back home with them!
The workshop will be lead by OAG Learning and Engagement Assistant Alexia-Leana Kokozaki, a Canadian-Cypriot artist based in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

Free kits provided. Each kit includes two fine point pens, sticker labels as well as laminating sheets. To get one, simply sign up below by October 22 and drop by the gallery the following week to pick it up!

Creative Sundays are back! Join us on Sunday, October 24th for a free family art activity. Discover the current exhibitions and get creative with a weaving workshop inspired by works from Greta Grip and Peter Owusu-Ansah. This activity encourages participants to bring together color and yarn to make weaved artworks that are dynamic and textured. All materials will be provided.
