Join us for a FREE youth art drop-in! Open to youth aged 15-25, materials and snacks are provided during the workshop.
Come join us in the making of your very own queer icon mixed media masterpiece! Inspired by the work of artist Gabriel Garcia Roman, as well as Abrahamic religious icon portraits, Vern Martin-Ivie will guide your creation of an icon portrait, with five historical queer icons to choose from. You can collage, paint, and design your icon to your heart’s desire. Participants are welcome to bring their own queer icon photo to work with, as well as their own collage supplies and decorations, but all materials will also be provided.
Reservations are required for this event and all materials will be provided. If you have any questions, please email us! 🙂 Email: youth@oaggao.ca
The wearing of masks during this event is not mandatory, but it is encouraged.
Vern Martin-Ivie loves to connect to the world through creativity. They desire a world where the arts are entirely equitable and inclusive to all identities, with no barriers for those who are historically marginalized. They are a proud advocate for queer and transgender rights, as well as an artist, arts administrator, and aspiring community educator. Vern’s interests start in collage, and extend to all sorts of disciplines and mediums, including poetry, graphic design, and digital art. Their work reflects their experiences as a disabled, fat, trans and queer person, and often carry themes like nostalgia, affirmations, and mental health.
