Salary Range: $50,000–$60,000, commensurate with experience

Position Summary
 

This is a new position at the Ottawa Art Gallery and an exciting opportunity for a community-minded leader to help shape the future of a growing department at the intersection of art, accessibility, and health. The Manager of Art and Wellbeing plays a key leadership role in advancing OAG’s mission to support community wellbeing through meaningful engagement with art. 

The Manager leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of inclusive programming that promotes mental, physical, and emotional health across diverse audiences—from toddlers to seniors—with a focus on individuals living with disabilities, dementia, or other health-related needs. 

They directly supervise two program coordinators and oversee a broader team of casual program guides and educators, as well as mentor interns. This role collaborates across departments and works closely with external partners in the health, community, and cultural sectors. 


Key Responsibilities
 


Strategic Leadership & Planning
 

  • Develop and implement a long-term vision for the Art and Wellbeing Department in alignment with OAG’s strategic priorities 
  • Lead annual planning cycles, budget forecasting, and goal setting 
  • Champion wellbeing-centered practices across the institution and sector 


Team & Program Management
 

  • Supervise and mentor two program coordinators, casual program guides and educators, and interns 
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of diverse art-based programs, including workshops, residencies, tours, and gallery activations 
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure a seamless and accessible visitor experience 


Community Engagement & Partnerships
 

  • Build and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, schools, artists, and community organizations 
  • Co-create programs with individuals and groups serving communities facing systemic barriers 
  • Represent OAG in local and national networks related to arts, health, and community wellbeing 


Access & Inclusion
 

  • Ensure all programs are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and accessible 
  • Lead departmental accessibility planning, including ASL interpretation, visual descriptions, sensory-friendly offerings, and physical access 


Evaluation & Reporting
 

  • Design and implement evaluation strategies to measure health and wellbeing outcomes 
  • Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, including funders 
  • Contribute to grant writing and fundraising efforts for departmental initiatives 


Qualifications
 


Required
 

  • 3–5 years of experience in program management within the arts, healthcare, or community sectors 
  • Demonstrated people management experience, including staff supervision and team leadership 
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards, trauma-informed care, and inclusive program design 
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with diverse communities 
  • Experience working with healthcare professionals and/or community organizations 
  • A strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice through the arts 


Preferred
 

  • Bilingual (English/French); additional languages are an asset 
  • Training or certification in art therapy, social work, arts education, or mental health support 
  • Familiarity with wellbeing evaluation models such as Social Prescribing or Arts on Prescription 


Working Conditions
 

  • Full-time salaried position with hybrid work flexibility 
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required based on programming needs 
  • This role involves interaction with diverse populations and regional travel for outreach
