Call For Youth Participants - Giant Tiger T-shirt Design Workshop

The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG), Giant Tiger and Kids Help Phone are collaborating for Pink Shirt Day 2025. Pink Shirt Day is celebrated every year on the last Wednesday of February to raise awareness about bullying. We are looking for youth ages 15-25 to produce a design for a t-shirt in a 2-part workshop series led by illustrator and comic book artist Andy Akangah. All participants will have their work exhibited at OAG in 2025 but one design will be selected for a fundraising t-shirt in support of Kids Help Phone to be sold in all Giant Tiger locations for Pink Shirt Day 2025.

More about the Workshop Series!

The 2-part workshop series on May 25th and June 15th from 10 am to 4 pm is designed to ignite your creativity and turn your ideas into professional-looking designs!

Workshop 1: Developing a design concept

  • Learn how to craft designs using traditional tools like pen, paper, crayons, and markers.
  • Identify your ideal customer and tailor designs to their preferences.
  • Learn concepts like composition, balance, negative space, and hierarchy to create visually appealing designs.

Workshop 2: Digitizing hand-drawn work for clothing

  • Take your designs digital! We’ll teach you how to clean them up and convert them into a vector format.
  • Master the art of color palettes to make your designs pop!
  • Learn how to mock up your designs on real garments and create assets ready for printing and production.

If you’re a budding fashion designer, illustrator, or just love to create, and you want to put a stop to bullying, this workshop series is for YOU! Get ready to develop your skills, gain valuable knowledge, and see your designs come to life!

Deadline for application: Monday, May 20, 2024
