Rocks and Rapture

Juan Geuer

BIRTH YEAR 1917
BIRTH PLACE Soest, Holland
DEATH YEAR 2009
DEATH PLACE Almonte, Ontario

Ottawa-based conceptual artist Juan Geuer believed that artists and scientists work towards a common goal—observation for greater insight into the rhythms of nature. In this installation, a bell jar from an instrument used to measure absolute gravity rests in a pile of rocks. Peer into the bowl and you will see a reflection of yourself through rock, as if descending into the earth, while the warm metallic tones recall the magma that makes up the earth’s mantle.
