Takao Tanabe

BIRTH YEAR 1926
BIRTH PLACE Prince Rupert, British Columbia

What have you been reflecting on lately? While windows in art are often used as a device to look outwards, in Takao Tanabe’s Window(1967), the yellow light appears to filter inwards, illuminating the colours and shapes of a suggested interior and offering a timely metaphor for interior reflection. Vancouver artist Takao Tanabe’s hard-edged geometric designs of the late 1960s present clever illusions and invite contemplation.
