Image shows a colourful scene of the entrance of the Rideau Canal locks which stretch into the distance in the centre of the work. Some rafts and a steam boat can be seen in front of the entrance and a few houses can be seen along either side of the canal. There is a roadway on the left side of the work and both sides are flanked with trees. The viewer appears to be standing on a perch with some trees as seen in the foreground on the left side of the work.
