ECLECTIC GEOMETRIC

Permanent Collection Highlights

October 11, 2018
 - March 17, 2019

Curator: Rebecca Basciano

Ghitta Caiserman, Pat Durr, Duncan de Kergommeaux, Claire Guillemette Lamirande, Norval Morrisseau, Gunter Nolte, Wendy Simon, Takao Tanabe, Gerald Trottier, York Wilson, and Jinny Yu.

This marks the first exhibition in the new Lawson A.W. Hunter Gallery dedicated to the Ottawa Art Gallery’s growing Permanent Collection. Revealing the multidisciplinary overlap between mathematics and visual art, this show brings together an eclectic range of work by artists who have engaged with the basis of geometry. In pursuit of a calculated design, these works present a rigorous manipulation of shapes and forms, including points, lines and surfaces, and range from strict grids that flow logically and mathematically, to optical illusions, three-dimensional explorations, and abstracted forms driven from nature.
