Creative Wellbeing: The power of bringing art into healing

April 28, 2021

Why include art in a hospital?

This discussion moderated by Alexandra Badzak, Director and CEO of the Ottawa Art Gallery, features Trystan Hawkins, an innovative hospital Art Director from the Chelsea & Westminster hospital in London, England who describes the impact of incorporating art in the hospital on patients, staff, artists and visitors. He was joined by Alexandra Kirsh, curator at the Royal Victoria hospital in Montreal, QC and Kaajuk Kablalik, an Inuit artist who worked on the stunning glass kayak at the General campus of The Ottawa Hospital.

Late 2019, the Ottawa Hospital, the Ottawa Art Gallery and the Ottawa Symphony signed a unique memorandum of understanding to work together to incorporate art into the Ottawa Hospital for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors. Starting with this virtual panel, the Creative Wellbeing program will include our community in the conversation.
