Canada Day at OAG

Join us on July 1st for a schedule of free activities this Canada Day. 


10 AM – 2 PM
Drop into the OAG Studio for all ages art activities, including felt bunting, finger puppets and more! 

Consider the OAG your lounge spot on Canada Day. As of 11 AM guests can enjoy cash bar and food offerings from Jackson Café on one of our two rooftop terraces. In the evening enjoy a set by DJ Jas Nasty.

Toddler Mornings

No registration is required. Drop-in to the Studio at any time. Free. 

Toddler Mornings is an opportunity for toddlers and their caregivers to enjoy creative play at Ottawa Art Gallery. Join us on the first Wednesday of the month to explore a variety of games and activities that foster creativity and problem solving skills. Take in the current exhibition and enjoy a relaxed social setting with other adults while bonding and having fun with your little one.

Performance: Shroud/Chrysalis I

This free participatory performance is available every Wednesday from 4 PM to 7 PM and every Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM, until July 14.

Location: Stonecroft Project Space.

Shroud/Chrysalis I explores our immersion in electromagnetic fields, the stuff of new technologies and ourselves. To participate, you are invited to be wrapped in copper taffeta, an electro-magnetic fabric that will shield and disengage you from cell phones, radio, television and other signals. For most of us it is the first time we have been truly disconnected.

Bring your mat and join us on the South Terrace for free yoga at OAG. Fridays this summer from 12 PM – 1 PM. Classes will offer 45 minutes of classic Hatha yoga followed by a 15 minute meditation.

OAG and the Ottawa Public Library are collaborating to present a series of creative workshops in various library branches across the city. Contact the branch nearest you to sign up.

Where would you feel most comfortable belonging? What would your ideal home-land look like? Would there be water in rainbow colours? Imaginary plants? Friendly creatures? Put your thinking cap on and create your own ecosystem in vivid colour! Open to all ages, this painting workshop will reference a few popular children’s books for inspiration. Ages 2-12.

Mining the Natural: Curator Tour with Rebecca Basciano

Join this free tour from the OAG Visitor Experience desk. 

This walkthrough will highlight artworks that reference or are made of materials from the natural world such as birchbark, copper, and stone. Alongside a concise geological history of the Ottawa-Gatineau region, we will discuss the cultural importance of specific materials, the knowledge and technical skills required to work with them, as well as the environmental impacts that have affected their availability.
