Graham Norwell
Artist Graham Norwell captures an impression of a tranquil Gatineau landscape in this watercolour sketch from 1922. Born in Scotland in 1901, Norwell moved to Montreal, then Kingston, ON, as a child with his family and later studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. Known for his painted depictions of rural landscapes in Quebec, Norwell’s works convey a strong sense of atmosphere through pared-back form and attention to colour, as can be seen in this sketch, which features painterly brushstrokes and a cool color palette.
