Custody of the Eyes

Influenced by contemporary cinema, Caroline Langill seeks to impart narratives through works that are sometimes kinetic and often include audio components. This publication accompanies the presentation of Langill’s works inspired by the lives of two very different women living in two very different eras: Saint Teresa of Avila and Janis Babson of Nepean (formerly City View), Ontario. Reflecting Langill’s fascination with stories about marginalized women, Custody of the Eyes follows Langill’s interest in issues relating to female identity through films, videos and installations. In response to Langill's installation, this bilingual publication features a history of medieval women mystics by archivist Kathaleen Garay.
