The OAG’s ARTivity program is designed to give participants a deeper understanding of each other through art. Guided by Gallery Educators and built by community leaders, the workshops are a fun way to develop confidence in expressing ideas, foster openness to different points of view, sharpen observational skills, encourage sharing and communication, and boost morale.

Relief from Everyday Life (Intro to Relief Printing)
Spark your imagination and develop new ways to express yourself together through this 90-minute Relief Printing workshop.
With the guidance of a Gallery Educator and together with your group, you will be inspired by OAG permanent collection artist James Boyd’s work Kumarbis is Forced to Land on Mount Kanzuras (1983) and learn about relief printing.
Each participant will make their own linocut to create a series of images to take home. Participants can work independently or foster team building through collaborating on a composite image.

Clay creatures
If an elephant and a salmon became one animal, what would this creature look like? Inspired by the playful sculptures and drawings of Russell Yuristy, come play with some clay and sculpt your own imaginary critter.
Duration: 90 minutes
re(mapping) place
Discover pre-colonial Anishinaabe mapmaking traditions and learn to (re)mapping your neighborhood or city.
Designed by the Anishinaabe (Odawa) artist Barry Ace, this workshop encourages critical thinking about colonialism in Canada. Your group will build cultural competence and respect for diverse Indigenous peoples, while learning more about each other and where you come from.

Expanded Landscapes
What lies beyond the frame of a Group of Seven landscape painting?
Your group will learn about famous landscape artworks, engage in thoughtful discussion about the impact of climate change on these places, and learn more about each other’s perspectives, through creating imagined scenes beyond the confines of the canvas.
Experiment with perspective and colour, create an expanded landscape and add your own point of view to these iconic works of art to provoke a lively discussion with your group.
