Year End Reflection: A Message from Alexandra Badzak

December 17, 2024

As we approach the close of 2024, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all who have supported the Ottawa Art Gallery throughout the year. Whether through attending exhibitions, participating in our programs, being a valued partner, or making generous donations, your involvement has made a profound difference. Together, we have created a vibrant cultural community that continues to thrive and inspire.

This year, we presented a dynamic range of exhibitions, programs and events that showcased the richness of Canadian art and the power of collaboration. From the intriguing works of William James Topley to the powerful narratives explored in Stories My Father Couldn’t Tell Me: Jeff Thomas Origins, to the important partnership with the University of Ottawa’s Department of Visual Arts for their 50th Anniversary exhibition Art School Confidential, each exhibition invited new perspectives, challenged us, and encouraged important conversations. Our community programs, including workshops, artist talks, and educational outreach, further enriched the experiences of visitors, fostering deeper connections with art and artists alike, including our recent HeARTcare Symposium, the first national gathering of artists, activist, researchers, and healthcare practitioners! We also foster intergenerational exchange and had the opportunity to honor artists from the region who have dedicated their lives to making and advocating for art through our annual Artist Investiture Ceremony.

The OAG’s mission is to not only celebrate artistic excellence but also to create a space where all voices are heard and valued. The support of our patrons, volunteers, and donors allows us to continue offering these vital experiences, ensuring that art remains a central part of our community’s cultural fabric.

As we look ahead to 2025, we are excited for the upcoming exhibitions, programs, and new initiatives that will inspire and engage visitors of all ages. But, like all cultural organizations, we rely on the generosity of individuals like you to keep OAG free and our programming accessible to everyone. Your donation—no matter the size—makes a tangible impact, supporting everything from our exhibitions to outreach efforts, and helps us continue to nurture the arts in Ottawa.

This holiday season, we ask for your continued support. Together, we can ensure that the OAG remains a space where art and community intersect, and where creativity can flourish for generations to come. Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and your belief in the power of art.

Wishing you a joyful and prosperous New Year.

Warm regards,
Alexandra Badzak, Director and CEO
