Fair-weather Forces (sun:light)

Germaine Koh

BIRTH YEAR 1967
BIRTH PLACE Georgetown, Malaysia

Acting as an intervention into the existing lighting system of the gallery, Vancouver-based artist Germaine Koh’s Fair-weather Forces (sun:light) uses sensors, a microcontroller, and electronic circuits to control the interior lights of the space in direct relation to changing, real-time exterior light levels, effectively defeating the purpose of artificial lighting. As a conceptual artist, Koh’s work is concerned with the significance of everyday actions, familiar objects, and common places. This work is from her series Fair-weather Forces, which consists of architectonic interventions that suggest a reciprocal relationship between human behavior and natural phenomena.
