A landscape depicting smokestacks on the left erupting with teems of smoke, blowing to the right, coming from a distant industrial plant on the horizon. The horizon is set in the bottom quarter of the image, with the landscape below painted in brown, ochre and black. Low, blue mountains are in the distance, beyond the plant. The upper half of the image is occupied by the sky, painted in darkening hues of blue.
