What colours come to mind when you think of a rural winter scene? Here, shades of violet, pink, bright yellow, and mint green make up this painterly snow-covered farm scene by Canadian artist Randolph Hewton. Can you spot the cool green tones peeking out from under the snow? Born in 1888 in Maple Grove, Québec, Hewton studied in Montreal and Paris in the early 20th century, and applied impressionist techniques and bright pops of colour to his early landscapes. Working in landscape and portraiture, Hewton was one of the founding members of the Beaver Hall Group and the Canadian Group of Painters.
