Interim Senior Curatorial Project Manager

The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) is seeking a senior project management professional to lead the delivery of its curatorial program during a maternity leave. 

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring the successful execution of a complex, multi-stream portfolio of exhibitions, public art initiatives, and collections projects. The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of arts, civic infrastructure, and public engagement. 

You will oversee delivery across projects that contribute directly to Ottawa’s Arts, Culture and Entertainment District / Arts Corridor, supporting initiatives with significant public visibility and stakeholder complexity. 


Role Overview 

Reporting to the Director & CEO, the Interim Senior Curatorial Project Manager is accountable for the planning, coordination, and execution of OAG’s curatorial initiatives. 

This role functions as the operational lead for the curatorial program, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with institutional priorities. While the Curator retains responsibility for artistic direction, this role holds responsibility for executional excellence, resource alignment, and team performance. 


Scope of Leadership
 

  • Portfolio Oversight 
    Lead delivery across a portfolio of exhibitions, public art commissions, and collections-related initiatives  
  • Operational Strategy & Execution 
    Translate curatorial vision into actionable plans, aligning timelines, budgets, and resources  
  • Team Leadership 
    Directly manage and support a small curatorial team, fostering accountability and high performance  
  • Cross-Functional Integration 
    Ensure alignment across curatorial, collections, production, and communications teams  
  • Stakeholder Management 
    Oversee relationships with artists, lenders, funders, municipal partners, and external collaborators  
  • Risk & Issue Management 
    Anticipate challenges, mitigate risks, and maintain delivery momentum across multiple concurrent projects  


Key Responsibilities
 

  • Lead end-to-end project delivery from planning through installation and public launch  
  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and contract management  
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements, reporting standards, and institutional policies  
  • Manage acquisitions coordination in collaboration with the Collections Department  
  • Oversee installation processes and production workflows  
  • Drive effective communication across internal teams and external stakeholders  
  • Monitor project performance and implement solutions to ensure successful outcomes  
  • Support the delivery of public programming tied to major exhibitions and institutional initiatives  


Ideal Candidate Profile
 

You are a senior project leader with experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives—ideally within cultural, civic, or public-facing environments. 

You bring a combination of strategic thinking and operational discipline, with the ability to move seamlessly between high-level oversight and detailed execution. 


Core qualifications:
 

  • 5–8+ years of project or program management experience in galleries, museums, public art, or comparable sectors (e.g., cultural infrastructure, public programming, creative industries)  
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities  
  • Strong financial management experience, including budgeting and contract oversight  
  • Proven leadership experience, including team management and cross-functional coordination  
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills  


Assets:
 

  • Experience with public art, collections, or exhibition production  
  • Experience working with municipal or government partners  
  • Grant funding and reporting experience
