Artwise Senior Council
currently on hold due to COVID-19
ArtWise gives older adults in the Ottawa region the opportunity to collaborate with peers and create OAG programming that reflects their interests, draws on their experience, and promotes intergenerational engagement with the arts.
ArtWise meets regularly as a volunteer programming council to discuss art, society, and the issues that matter most to the group.
Working with gallery staff, local artists and invited guests, the ArtWise council proposes and initiates programming, including lectures, exhibition projects, field trips, workshops and events.
HOW TO JOIN
Membership in ArtWise requires a one-year commitment and is open to anyone who is interested in culture and self-identifies as an older adult in the Ottawa region. ArtWise aims to attract a wide range of people who enjoy sharing their interests with others in a supportive and inclusive environment.

OAG’s Learning and Engagement team offers “Art Talk” phone calls in partnership with the Good Companions Seniors’ Center and other seniors’ organizations.
The program is free, and all you need is a regular telephone to connect.
We chat about art in OAG exhibitions, the featured artists, their lives, and how their experiences have informed their work. OAG Educators open up a conversation where participants are comfortable sharing parts of their life experiences and memories evoked by the artwork.
The ArtWise council, comprised of older adults in the Ottawa region, proposes and initiates programming that reflects their interests at the OAG.
Events have included lectures, tours, exhibition projects, field trips, and workshops.
The Mine the Gap project, which brought seniors and youth together for creative exchange, and the Workshop Village series dedicated to increasing the accessibility of OAG exhibitions and programming for seniors, have been Artwise initiatives.
