CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
R: A landscape painting of a small bay in the centre of the image surrounded by high cliffs. In the foreground is a dark house, surrounded by green fields. In the middle ground, overlooking the water is a small cluster of houses. Across the bay from the houses is a tall rocky cliff. The open water of Lake Superior is visible in the top left of the image, with no land on the horizon. V: Grass, white flowers and rocks are in the foreground, overlooking a body of water. On the far side of the water is an escarpment painted in shades of yellow. There is a piece of tape adhered to the surface which reads : "Port Coldwell - Lake Superior 1929" with the signature of A.J. Casson. The painting has been marked with a dark paintbrush, scribbled over.
