William Clapp
The lush warmth of a Cuban river is almost palpable in William H. Clapp's oil painting titled Filling Parongs, Cuba 1916. Born in Montreal in 1879, Clapp studied in Paris, where he developed his passion for impressionistic landscape painting, before living in Cuba from 1915-1917. He later settled in California where he was a founding member of the Society of Six artist group and served as the Director of the Oakland Art Gallery for 30 years.
