Texts by Alice Ming Wai Jim, Diana Freundl, Michelle Gewurtz, and Michelle Jacques
A collaboration between the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, and the Ottawa Art Gallery, this publication accompanies Howie Tsui’s solo exhibition Retainers of Anarchy, named after the exhibition’s title work: a 25m video installation that references life during the song dynasty (960–1279 CE). With four original essays, this exhibition catalogue highlights Tsui’s latest work, and comments on his larger artistic practice which has explored Asian art and pop-culture since 2002.
