Arts, Scientific Research and Wellness for a Healthy Ottawa

The Ottawa Hospital and the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG), two anchor Ottawa organizations, inspired and supported by philanthropist Jennifer Toby, along with The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, announce a unique collaboration:

Creative Wellbeing is a city-building partnership with a vision to add artistic expression to the healthcare experience and to build awareness across Ottawa of the unique relationship between art and science as it relates to healthcare.

With a goal to foster a healthier and more engaged population in Ottawa by promoting cultural vibrancy and social cohesion, this multi-year partnership will work in collaboration with community leaders to link local artists and artistic communities, across varying disciplines, to work with The Ottawa Hospital to create and exhibit works of art that will:

  • Increase public awareness and understanding of research and patient care at TOH and throughout Ottawa
  • Incorporate artistic beauty and expression into the hospital experience
  • Develop Art as Therapy programming

The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) and The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) are cooperating on a new arts award program to help rejuvenate and reignite the Ottawa-Gatineau and surrounding community through creativity.

Three prizes, totaling $40,000, will be awarded in recognition of the art and artist’s role in healing and wellness, featuring:

  • The Art and Science Residency Award
  • The Indigenous, Art as Healing Award
  • The Art as Healing Award.
