A Message from OAG’s Director and CEO

Dear OAG Members, Supporters and Friends,

I am writing to share some personal news with the OAG community. I have been diagnosed with cancer and will shortly begin treatment at The Ottawa Hospital.

While the coming months will require me to work somewhat differently—primarily virtually and with a more focused schedule—I will continue to lead the Ottawa Art Gallery throughout my treatment. Staying connected to OAG and to the meaningful work ahead is important grounding for me, and I am deeply grateful to be able to do so.

I head into this period with enormous confidence in our amazing Team OAG. We have an exceptional group of people whose leadership, expertise, creativity and care make this Gallery what it is, and I know that OAG will continue to thrive.

I am also profoundly grateful to our Board Chair, Mark Schaan, and our entire Board of Directors for their unwavering support and for giving me the flexibility to put my health first while continuing to lead an institution that means so much to me.

There is a great deal of exciting work ahead for OAG, and I look forward to continuing that work together—even if you may see me showing up a little differently for a while.

Thank you, as always, for being part of the OAG community.

With gratitude,
Alexandra
Director and CEO

A Message from the OAG Board

Dear OAG Community,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to express our unwavering support for Alexandra as she begins treatment.

Those of us who have had the privilege of working with Alex know the fierce commitment, vision and energy she has brought to OAG throughout more than 16 years of leadership. That leadership continues.

Our role as a Board over the coming months is straightforward: to support Alex in putting her health first while enabling her to continue leading OAG in a way that works for her throughout treatment.

OAG has an exceptional staff team, a deeply committed Board and tremendous momentum behind the work underway. Together, we will support Alex as she navigates the months ahead while continuing to advance the important work of the Gallery.

We are enormously grateful for the care and encouragement we know Alex will also receive from the wider OAG community.

Mark Schaan
Chair, on behalf of the OAG Board of Directors
