OAG announces the Critics’ Choice selection for 2022 Give to Get Art Auction

May 27, 2022

The OAG’s Give to Get Art Auction begins tonight, May 27, with a Gala celebration, and continues all weekend with online bidding. OAG also organized a free in-person local Art Market, and today has announced the five Critics’ Choice artists for 2022!

The Critics’ Choice is led by a committee of external jurors. This much anticipated annual feature highlights the high quality of work up for auction. Each year, OAG invites an independent panel of judges made up of Ottawa-Gatineau artists, art directors, critics, community leaders or curators to meet behind closed doors to view the auction exhibition.

This year, they considered 95 works donated by regional artists for the fundraiser and deliberated to select only five works as the Critics’ Choice. The 2022 jurors are Laura Margita, the Director and Curator at Gallery 101, and Sylvia Dreaver, Emerging Curator of Indigenous Art at the Canadian Museum of History. While touring the room to take in each work, they noted the beautiful use of colour, hovering shapes, and detailed backgrounds in some of the art, as well as new takes on portraiture, representations of time passing, adorable elements, and surprising interactive components.

And now… drumroll, please! The 2022 Critics’ Choice for OAG’s 2022 Give to Get Art Auction, which are identified with a star in the auction exhibition, are here in no particular order:
