A self-portrait with a vibrant background painted with warm yellows, fading to green in the upper portion of the canvas. There is a tight crowd of skeletal figures in the background on the upper right side, as if engulfed in flames. Yellow and green shades are reflected onto the Artist's face, with red and white highlights. The face is positioned to the left side of the frame and is in 3/4 profile facing the right. He is wearing thick-framed glasses and has a grey/white beard. The mouth is agape.
