Texts by Catherine Sinclair and Joyce Frances Devlin
Senior artist Joyce Frances Devlin has lived and worked in the Ottawa region for over forty years, and is known for her abstract collages, tapestry-like patterns, daringly coloured landscapes, and metaphorical paintings of birds, trees, and flowers. Accompanying an exhibition of Devlin’s contemporary paintings held at the OAG in 2011, this bilingual publication includes full colour reproductions of the artist’s work, along with an artist’s statement. Also included is an essay by exhibition curator Catherine Sinclair that contextualizes Devlin’s practice within the history of late twentieth-century painting both in Canada and internationally.
