From Ottawa to Tokyo: Bridging Nations Through Art

May 7, 2026

Marking their first exhibition collaboration, the Ottawa Art Gallery partnered with the Embassy of Canada to Japan in Tokyo to present an international exhibition of EEPMON’s groundbreaking generative art. Digital Worlds: The Generative Art of EEPMON | EEPMON展:デジタルアートが生み出す無限 の世界, on view until May 12, 2026 at the Prince Takamado Gallery in Tokyo, is a celebration of cultural connection, collaboration, and creative innovation.

Reflecting a deep curiosity about how human imagination and digital intelligence can work together, EEPMON’s cutting-edge creations are created through computer code that blends logic, chance, and interactivity. His long-running CityLights series, inspired by Tokyo’s vibrant Shibuya and Shinjuku districts, pulses with urban energy, while Chaos Bloom reveals organic, fluid forms that feel alive and constantly evolving. Together, these bodies of work trace over two decades of artistic growth, experimentation, and global dialogue.

“EEPMON’s work sits at a fascinating intersection of art and technology. In Digital Worlds, he demonstrates how generative systems can produce works that are both mathematically precise and visually poetic. Presenting this exhibition in Tokyo—particularly in a gallery dedicated to strengthening Canada–Japan relations—underscores how contemporary digital art can create new spaces for dialogue across cultures, disciplines, and borders.”
—Rebecca Basciano, Chief Curator, Ottawa Art Gallery

“It is a profound honour to exhibit my digital artworks at the Prince Takamado Gallery. Representing Canada in Japan is especially meaningful as we approach the centennial anniversary of our diplomatic relations and close friendship in 2028. My sincere thanks to the OAG, the sponsors, and the Embassy of Canada to Japan for their invaluable support in making my solo show possible”

Presented at the Prince Takamado Gallery, named in honour of the late Prince Takamado for his lasting contributions to Canada–Japan relations, this exhibition reflects the value of collaboration across borders and commitment to innovation and forward-thinking. By bringing contemporary Canadian digital art into a diplomatic space in Tokyo, OAG and the Embassy are demonstrating how art can act as a bridge between nations. This joint effort between an artist, a public art gallery, and a diplomatic mission illustrate how art can drive innovation, support sustainability, and foster meaningful international connections.

For OAG, this partnership represents a major milestone and is an exciting new chapter in bringing Canadian imagination to the world. It expands the Gallery’s reach onto the global stage and reinforces its commitment to supporting Ottawa-Gatineau artists.
