OTTAWA ON, May 22th 2019 – On May 30th, the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) will host LE PARTY, its signature fundraising event for over twenty years. The auction attracts hundreds of guests who have a taste for local art and cuisine. LE PARTY raises funds that allows the Gallery to offer free educational programs, tours, events, free childcare on Fridays and free admission to the Gallery every day.
One of Ottawa’s premier social art events, LE PARTY is a silent art auction and cocktail that celebrate the incredible calibre of art from the region. It features works by 65 regional artists, ranging from emerging to well established. Over the years, close to 1,160 artworks have been donated to the art auction.
Works up for auction include paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography, printmaking, fashion design, mixed media, and jewelry. The event also feature the popular Buy it Now program, which offers guests the opportunity to end bidding and immediately purchase any work on auction, at market value. In 2018 nearly 20% of works sold were purchased through the Buy It Now. Works will range in price from $100 – $12 000.
“LE PARTY, OAG’s annual art auction, returning to its early summer spot on the social calendar, is always a great event to mingle and purchase some artwork from some of the most important artists from the region. Not only do patrons support professional artists but there contributions help to keep OAG free and accessible for everyone!” says Ottawa Art Gallery Director and CEO, Alexandra Badzak.
New this year, 50 % of the revenues go back to the artists, a higher return, and after LE PARTY, OAG is hosting for the first time a late-night event for novice art collectors. Guests may purchase the Art Lover ticket for early access to the art acquiring and special reception (starting at 5:30 pm) or Individual tickets for the cocktail party and auction at 7 pm. après/after LE PARTY starts at 9:30 pm and is also ticketed.
LE PARTY has raised over $1 million over the years. This year’s title sponsors are Downtown Rideau BIA and Le Germain Hotels.
