The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG), in partnership with the Herongate Tenant Coalition, is seeking young BIPOC photographers (between the ages of 15 to 25) with ties to the Herongate neighbourhood for a community arts project and mentorship opportunity with artist Daniel Effah.
From December 2021 to February 2022, selected candidates will attend a group mentorship session as well as a one-on-one meeting with Effah, where they will receive critical feedback on their photographs, learn new techniques, and gain experience with grant writing. Participants will also conduct surveys of Herongate residents to inform the development of their artistic projects. The main goal will be to create a bottom-up, community-oriented vision of the Herongate neighbourhood as imagined by existing residents. OAG is offering an honorarium of $400 to each youth participating in this mentorship program. Participants will be paid $250 for their community research and the completion of questionnaires, as well as $150 for a public presentation of their findings/proposed project at the OAG. If you are interested, please submit one or two examples of your photographs, a short statement on your connection to the Herongate community, and your contact information to Caroline Stewart cstewart@oaggao.ca.
The deadline for applications is Sunday, Dec 5th 2021 at 11:59 PM and should be submitted to cstewart@oaggao.ca.
Please direct questions to Caroline Stewart via email at cstewart@oaggao.ca with the subject line: Create Herongate.
