Give To Get Art: shaking things up for the Ottawa Art Gallery’s 2020 Art Auction

December 8, 2020

Press Release

OTTAWA ON, Tuesday December 8th, 2020 – The Ottawa Art Gallery’s 2020 annual art auction and signature fundraiser will be a little different this year, with many new and exciting features. For the first time, GIVE TO GET ART: Virtual Art Auction is going virtual for the bidding and is also showcasing the donated art up for auction in a 2 week-long exhibition on-site at the Gallery.

This year, no ticket is needed to view the donated artworks by 55 Ottawa-Gatineau artists exhibited at OAG in the Alma Duncan Salon from December 5 to 18. The works, which can also be viewed online, will be auctioned off over a week through the Bid Beacon on-line bidding app from December 12th to the 18th, 2020. Access to the auction starts with a $35 bidding ticket in support of regional art, artists and OAG. Half of the funds raised through the auction art sales will go to support the Gallery’s exhibitions and educational programming, with the other 50% of the proceeds going back to participating artists in support of their contribution to the fundraiser.

“The OAG is a space in which I feel completely comfortable and I am so happy to be able to contribute to this year’s auction so this beautiful institution can keep rising and flourishing in our community.” – Laurena Finéus, Ottawa-Gatineau painter and Give to Get Art Critic’s Choice winner

OAG is also thrilled to announce a new collaboration with BEING Studio, a diverse community of artists with developmental disabilities, which will feature the work of some of their artist members as part of the auction and bring attention to this important local space which offers a creative program that promotes inclusiveness.

The Critic’s Choice, an important component of the auction every year, invites a jury, made up of members of the community, to review all artworks donated and to select 5 stand-out pieces that highlight the high-caliber of work from the region. This year’s jury, comprised of Tam-Ca Vo-Van, Director of Galerie SAW Gallery, Rosey Edeh, Filmmaker and CTV Morning Live Ottawa Anchor, and Linda Grussani, Art Historian and Indigenous Art Curator, looked at  55 works of art of many forms, from ceramics, photography, mixed-media, prints, paintings, and sculpture by local and national emerging to established artists.

The 2020 OAG Art Auction’s Critic’s Choice, in no particular order, are: Rosalie Favell, Josée Dubeau, Marisa Gallemit, Laurena Finéus, and & Jake Riseborough Christopher Griffin.
