Fall is here and the OAG is buzzing with excitement!
September brings a week of exciting art activations. Be sure to join us! From mural projects and artist talks to exciting festivals, there’s something for everyone at Ottawa’s home for the arts.
Artist Activations
Beginning September 18, visitors to the gallery are invited to watch artists at work, with two mural projects underway in the context of our current exhibition 83 ’til infinity. Over the course of the week, artist Mique Michelle, along with two mentees, will be live painting a mural in the exhibition on the 4th floor, while artists Kalikdan Assefa and Jimmy Baptiste, with mentee Alberto Disundidi, will transform the planters outside of the OAG’s Mackenzie King Lobby. Both pieces are an homage to the history of hip hop in the Ottawa-Gatineau region through public mural making.
The mural mentorships are generously funded by the Ontario Arts Council’s (OAC) Artist Presenter Grant, as well as the RBC Foundation as part of OAG’s Connect: Artist Mentorship Program. The murals will be in progress until September 23rd.
The artists will be giving two Public Artist Talks to deepen our understanding of mural making and its role in hip-hop and social justice in the Ottawa Gatineau Region.
Animation @ the OAG
The OAG is thrilled to welcome the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OAIF), one of the world’s leading animation events. Running from September 20th to September 24th, the OIAF will be activating the building with screenings in the Alma Duncan Salon and at various other locations in Ottawa. For more information about viewings or tickets, please click here.
Continue the experience with Debaser and PIQUE, FALL EDITION, on Saturday, September 23.
For the second year, Debaser is partnering with the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) to co-present the festival’s closing night party. Hundreds of the world’s leading and emerging animators will intermingle with Pique’s artistically adventurous audience for the multidisciplinary art party of the season. Soulful City Sounds
Enjoy outdoor musical performances in various vibrant neighbourhoods across Ottawa!
On Friday, September 22, City Sounds, in partnership with House of PainT, will bring live music to the OAG with performances by The LJ, Miss McLeod, DJ Del Pilar, Lonely Boy, Yoharis, and OC34N, activating both our Daly and Mackenzie Lobby Plazas.
Making Beats
Groove to the end of the week with beats and graffiti. On September 24, in the context of our 83 ’til infinity exhibition, everyone is welcome to join the OAG in the Studio for Creative Sundays. In this session, artist Moe will be teaching the basics of beatboxing, starting with the building blocks of hip-hop music, the bass, high-hat and snare, and how to arrange the sounds to make music.
Finally, register for Art + Yoga, taking place in the 83 ‘til infinity exhibit space and sponsored by UNIQLO Canada!
